This paper presents an Answer Set Programming (ASP)-based approach to bus route finding in Bangkok, Thailand. The study models bus routes and stations as a directed graph and formulates route finding as a constraint-based planning problem that can reflect different user preferences, such as minimizing travel time and reducing the number of transfers. The proposed modular ASP encoding generates multiple high-quality route candidates and offers greater flexibility across different optimization criteria compared with conventional shortest-path approaches such as Dijkstra’s algorithm. The empirical study using real-world bus network data demonstrates the potential of ASP for flexible and preference-aware public transportation route planning.
Congratulations to the authors on this achievement!
